Alexander Kutikov, MD, has been appointed the new chief of the Division of Urologic Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center.
Kutikov joined the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase in 2010 after completing a Society of Urologic Oncology Fellowship at the Center. He earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and completed his residency in urology at the University of Pennsylvania.
“Fox Chase is a place like no other. The mission is not only to deliver world-class care, but to do so in the most compassionate way possible,” Kutikov said. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this second-to-none Urological Oncology team. I will work tirelessly to continue the tradition of clinical and academic excellence that was established by my predecessors.”
Kutikov will fill the role being vacated by Richard Greenberg, MD, who served as chief of the Division of Urology and Urologic Oncology for 22 years. Though he is stepping down as division chief, Greenberg will continue his full clinical responsibilities and serve as a professor of urology at both Fox Chase and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.
“I believe the time is right to pass the torch as chief of the division and look forward to the new ideas and energy Dr. Kutikov will bring into the position,” Greenberg said. “The team that we have built is world-class and will no doubt continue to be at the forefront of urologic oncology for many decades as we all move forward in helping alleviate suffering from, and ultimately curing, urologic cancers.”
Kutikov is a Professor of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase. He is a board certified, academic urologic surgical oncologist who treats urologic tumors using minimally invasive (robotic / laparoscopic) and traditional surgical techniques. He has authored or co-authored more than 175 publications and has published chapters in leading textbooks, including “Campbell-Walsh Urology,” and “Gray’s Anatomy.” He has held leadership positions in the American College of Surgeons, American Urological Association, and the Society of Urologic Oncology. His name appears as one of America’s Top Doctors and on the Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Doctors List.
“Dr. Kutikov is a tireless advocate for new innovations and clinical excellence and is a champion of our institutional spirit and mission,” said Robert Uzzo, MD, chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase. “Dr. Greenberg and I are confident that he will move the division boldly forward by providing the clinical and administrative leadership to maintain and expand on what Dr. Greenberg and the urology team have put together so adeptly.”
Kutikov assumed his new responsibilities on July 1, 2017.
