Cory Abate-Shen, PhD, research faculty, Columbia Urology, Columbia University Medical Center, discusses the challenges of bladder cancer modeling.
In order to develop mouse models, it is necessary to know where the tumor originates. However, this is not currently well understood in bladder cancer, says Abate-Shen.
Researchers are working to understand the key alterations that contribute to bladder cancer tumors. Recent advancements in genomic analysis have given researchers more tools, and it is now understood that P53 is a key player in bladder cancer, says Abate-Shen.
