Venook, MD, about recent updates to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Clinical Practice Guidelines for gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Dr Venook holds the Madden Family Distinguished Professorship in Medical Oncology and Translational Research and is a professor in the Department of Medicine (Hematology/Oncology) at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He is also the Shorenstein Associate Director for Program Development at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
In our exclusive interview, Dr Venook discussed notable updates to the NCCN guidelines for hepatobiliary and colorectal cancers that occurred in 2024, summarized recent evolutions across the GI cancer treatment paradigm, and explained the guidelines’ unprecedented shift toward differentiating between treatment recommendations for different subsets of GI cancers.
