It can be challenging for oncologists to target tumor cells in the prostate, Emberton explains. Methods of killing such cells include using extreme temperatures with lasers, radio frequency, and a high-intensity focused ultrasound. However, there needs to be a treatment that is easier to administer, Emberton says.
Some of these simpler formats, which are being investigated in clinical trials, include electricity, targeted agents, and photodynamic therapy.
