OncLive brings total of 29 esteemed oncologists to awards panel for insight.
The Giants of Cancer Care program, presented by OncLive, announced today that 10 new members have joined their Advisory Panel, the judiciary body for the premier awards program. These additions bring the total number of advisory panel members to 29, and highlights the continued growth of the program in 2014.
The Giants of Cancer Care initiative recognizes and celebrates individuals who have achieved landmark success within the field of oncology. The Advisory Panel is an exclusive board of oncologists, educators, clinicians and researchers who have dedicated their valuable time to the program, providing guidance to OncLive as it further develops the program and, most importantly, selects the oncologists who will be named Giants.
The Advisory Panel’s insights are crucial for continued success, and the new members will bring their exemplary experience and tenure to the program. The complete advisory panel list is as follows:
“We are proud to welcome our new Advisory Panel members as they help us fulfill our mission to improve the quality of life for cancer patients,” said OncLive Chairman and CEO Mike Hennessy.
The Advisory Panel is chaired by Hope S. Rugo, MD, a medical oncologist and hematologist specializing in breast cancer research and treatment. Rugo is the Director of the Breast Oncology Clinical Trials Program at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is the principal investigator for multiple clinical trials focusing on combining novel targeted therapeutics with standard treatment to improve the treatment of both early and late-stage breast cancer. She is an active member of the national cooperative group, CALGB, and is a founding member of the Breast Cancer Research Consortium, as well as serving as an investigator in the UCSF Breast SPORE (the Bay Area Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer). Rugo also teaches medical students and physicians, and regularly lectures locally, nationally and internationally on subjects relating to the treatment of breast cancer.
